Rising at the heart of Gordion, Tumulus K-II is a silent witness to the power of the Phrygian civilization. This sculptural tomb dating to the era of the legendary King Midas, a colossal mound of earth and stone, has stood on the plains of Polatlı for nearly 2,700 years. Roughly 50 meters in diameter and 10 meters high, this monument reflects the wealth and ceremonial life of one of the most important cultural centers of the ancient world. The findings uncovered in archaeological excavations show that the tumulus, which contains a burial chamber, belonged to a person of high social status in that era. An interesting detail: although Midas's legend is famous for everything he touched turning to gold, the bronze and pottery found at Gordion are a calculated reflection of the true artistic gold of the Phrygian masters. When you visit, do not forget to climb to the top of the tumulus; standing there, at the intersection of past and present, you will be greeted by the mythological world of the Phrygians.
