Editor's Note
Hierapolis was a Hellenistic Greek city in Phrygia, southwestern Anatolia, adjacent to modern Pamukkale near Denizli. Founded in the 3rd century BC on a Phrygian cult site of the mother goddess Cybele, it was renowned for its hot springs, fine wool fabrics and dyes, and as the birthplace of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus.
