Editor's Note

The project was assigned, together with Clemens Holzmeister, to the Provincial Chief Engineering Office of Public Works; the construction was contracted to contractor-engineer Abdurrahman Naci Bey. The engineer who oversaw the work was Galip Bey. Besides the Ministry of the Interior, the building houses the Gendarmerie General Command and the Directorate General of Security. Consisting of two five-storey horizontal blocks above a basement and three-storey masses forming a U that join these blocks at right angles, the building has its rooms arranged along long corridors. The blocks forming the U are connected to the courtyard by inward-facing arcades along the main avenue.
