Standing quietly among the barren hills at the edge of Melikgazi's map, the Beştepeler Tumulus V is a burial site that has been home to Anatolia's unforgotten children. Dating back roughly 3,000–3,500 years, to the time of cities that commanded the trade routes of ancient Cappadocia, this mound has bound the most magnificent members of society to the earth for eternity. The bronze items, decorative vessels, and various objects found in the excavation works reveal how meticulous and meaningful the funerary rites were. The earth and stones that make up the tumulus were shaped by the thinking of the architects of their time, and they preserve the lifestyle and world of belief of that era. Connected to the nearby Sarıkaya settlement and the Pütürge period, Beştepeler is an important part of the region's cultural network and balance of power. If these mounds are visited in the spring breeze, the memory of past ages will be recalled as the Kayseri plain stretches out before you, and history will stir within you alongside a living feeling.
