Editor's Note
Rize Castle is a partly-ruined medieval castle set on the southwest of the city center. It has two parts, the Inner Castle and the Lower Castle; the latter has disappeared due to dense settlement, while some wall sections and towers survive on the west side. Although its exact history is unknown, the inner castle is known to have been rebuilt during the reign of Justinian (527-565).
