Editor's Note
The Ploutonion at Hierapolis, or Pluto's Gate, was a ploutonion in the ancient city of Hierapolis near Pamukkale, Denizli Province. Discovered by Italian archaeologists in 1965, it was found to have been deliberately built over a seismic fault revered as the Gateway of Hades. During later excavations led by Francesco D'Andria, a replica of the marble statue of Hades and Cerberus was restored to its original place.
