Editor's Note
Balatlar Church, also known as the Koimesis Church of Sinope, is a rectangular Byzantine-era basilica in the Ada quarter of Sinop. Thought to have been built in 660 AD, the complex is believed to have first served as a Roman bath before becoming a church, later a grain store, and eventually a monastery dedicated jointly to the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael; by the 1920s it was also used as a cemetery.
