Story
In the historic center of Sinop, the Aslan Torunlar House Ethnography Museum has been preserved with all the characteristic features of a traditional Black Sea home, safeguarding the collective memory of the eras before and after the Republic. Built on stone foundations and retaining its original structure with high ceilings and wooden detailing, this place documents the public and private life of the middle-class families who lived in Sinop in the 19th and 20th centuries through its textile collections, handmade ceramics, copper vessels, and household items. Offering important insights into the commerce and social order of the Black Sea region, the museum presents memories meticulously preserved by local heirs. Especially valuable is the fact that many of the woven pieces on display bear patterns unique to Sinop and incorporate techniques found nowhere else. During your visit, we recommend asking the guide to see the written sources and archival documents kept in the museum's storage area; often the most important pieces in a museum wait beyond the display cases.
