The young soldier Seyit Çabuk, only 22 years old, supported the front by carrying artillery shells on his shoulders for the sake of his country's independence, and fell as a martyr on that sacred ground. The monument's bronze statue, with its upright stance in military uniform and its determined gaze, keeps silent watch on a hill overlooking the far side of the Sea of Marmara; the period artifacts and bullet marks around it offer a striking image of the war. Corporal Seyit went down in history not merely as a soldier but as a tangible symbol of the sacrifice and resilient spirit of the Turkish people.
