Petobriga

Story

The ancient settlement of Petobriga, located near Beypazarı, is a vivid witness to Anatolia's era of clashing civilizations. Founded in the time of the Roman Empire, this site demonstrates the intense use of the area through its architectural ruins of thick stone foundations, structures pointing to period repairs, and traces of stairways. Thanks to its position among the important trade routes of the ancient Galatia region, Petobriga became a point of contact for different civilizations. The ceramic fragments uncovered at the site prove that this place was a lively center for hundreds of years; and unlike similar sites in the region, its details of architectural planning offer important clues about its settlement culture. For your visit, we recommend coming in the spring or autumn months; in those seasons the climate is more favorable and you can examine the stone structures in detail.
