The Amisos Tumuli, located in the İlkadım district of Samsun, are silent witnesses of antiquity. Known as Amisos in the Greek world, this region was an important trade center during the era of the Kingdom of Pontus. Today, this archaeological site welcomes visitors with a majestic landscape surrounded by mounds and tumuli. The remains it holds deep within its historical layers reveal the influence of ancient civilization on the Black Sea. An interesting note: these tumuli, named after Amisos, are high mounds where important members of families were buried. At this strategic point where the trade routes of the era intersected, different civilizations came together. Archaeological excavations have brought to light valuable finds from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. A visiting tip: climbing the mounds at sunset to feel the breadth of the Black Sea horizon together with the depth of history offers an unforgettable experience.
