Story
Situated on the shores of Beşiktaş, Iasonion is one of Istanbul's important settlement areas from antiquity. Built into the unique geography of the Bosphorus, this site reflects the successive arrival of different civilizations. Offering the testimony of a rich past through ceramic fragments, building ruins, and written documents, Iasonion carries an intriguing origin tied to mythology - its name comes from the connection of the region with the mythological hero Jason and the ship Argo. Ancient Greek inscriptions document that the Bosphorus was one of the commercial and cultural centers of antiquity. The finds uncovered in excavations show the strategic importance of this settlement, which developed at the crossroads of Thracian and Anatolian cultures. As you visit Iasonion, you can discover the silent story of thousands of years among the stones and foundations hidden along the water's edge - each ancient artifact a living piece of the layers of civilization on the Bosphorus.
