Story

The Sinop Museum, set in the legendary harbor of the Black Sea, preserves the memory of ancient Sinope. Traces of a layered history stretching from the Kingdom of Pontus to the Ottoman age are kept alive in the museum's collections. Bronze statues, ancient ceramics, Roman-period artifacts, and works from the era of Turkmen-Byzantine fusion tell of the existence of a bridge between civilizations. Among the coral-encrusted ceramics recovered from the inventories of ships sunk off Sinop are also medical instruments from the age of Ibn Sina. While preserving its culture, the museum building also brings to light the strategic importance of Sinop's geographic position. To understand the Black Sea face of Anatolia, visitors can wander the narrow streets of Sinop and then listen to the voice of antiquity in the museum's tranquil halls.
