Editor's Note
This is the tomb of Mehmed IV (Mehmed the Hunter), the 19th Ottoman sultan. Son of Sultan Ibrahim, he came to the throne in 1648 at the age of six after his father's deposition and became the second-longest-reigning sultan after Suleiman the Magnificent, ruling for 39 years. Nicknamed 'the Hunter' for his passion for hunting, his reign saw the empire reach its greatest territorial extent in Europe. He was deposed in 1687 and died at Edirne in 1693.
