Editor's Note
Yılanlı Church is a rock-cut church in the Ihlara Valley near Aksaray, dated to the late 9th century. Cross-planned, barrel-vaulted and single-apsed, it has monk tombs in a chapel on its north wall. It takes its name ("Snake Church") from a scene on the west wall showing four sinful women attacked by snakes. Left unfinished, its vault is flanked by depictions of saints revered in Cappadocia.
