Editor's Note
The century-old history of the Hacı Abdullah Restaurant is a continuation of the Ahi guild tradition. The legacy of long-established businesses is usually either passed from father to son or sold for money and changed hands between companies. At Hacı Abdullah, however, neither rule applies. Hacı Abdullah's journey, which began in 1888, has been handed down 'from master to apprentice.' In the late Ottoman period, a restaurant named 'Abdullah Efendi' was opened on the Karaköy Quay. The operating licence of the restaurant was granted personally by Sultan Abdülhamid II.
