Editor's Note
In the 1500s, this was the jereed (javelin-throwing) field of Prince Cihangir, son of Süleyman the Magnificent, and with the construction of Dolmabahçe Palace in 1856 it became the palace's Imperial Stables. Although called stables, it was in fact a complex structure.
