Editor's Note
A historic aqueduct within the boundaries of the Esenler district, also known as Karakemer, Tekkemer, or Yılanlıkemer. With 11 arches, a single tier, and a height of about 10.3 metres, the structure is a work of Mimar Sinan, built of hard limestone and about 109.5 metres long. Roughly four centuries old, the aqueduct has deteriorated in recent years due to unplanned urbanization and neglect, and has become largely hidden among the multi-storey buildings erected beside it.
