Editor's Note
The Surp Haç Catholic Church stood in the Büyük Bahçebaşı neighborhood, to the northwest of the Mehmet Türkaslan Mansion. By the end of the 19th century, Kayseri's Armenian Catholic community, numbering around 1,500 people, had gathered around the Surp Haç Church. Through the efforts of Father Bogos Emmanuelyan, the number of Armenian Catholic households rose to forty by 1886. By the end of Emmanuelyan's long tenure, the city's Catholic population had multiplied several times over, and three Armenian and three Jesuit priests served this community.
