Editor's Note
On 13 October 1923, Ankara became the capital of the new Republic of Turkey. Because the capital had moved to Ankara, the embassies that had until then been in Istanbul also had to relocate there. The German Embassy was among the first foreign missions to build an embassy building in Ankara. As early as 26 September 1924, a 28,000-square-metre plot was acquired and registered in the title deeds as embassy land.
