Editor's Note
Built of black-and-white cut stone in the Seljuk architectural style, the masjid takes its name 'Alacali' (mottled) from this two-toned stonework. The mosque consists of a square-planned prayer hall preceded by a portico, and is topped with a pointed cap. Its walls are laid in neat courses of two-coloured stone. Inside, a brick dome rises over walls of coursed rubble stone. The minaret, broken off above its base, is reached from inside the building.
