Editor's Note
Palu Castle is a historic fortress carved into rock in the Palu district of Elazığ. Dating from the Urartian period, it was built by King Menua. Bounded by the Murat River to the south and southeast and protected by steep cliffs to the north and west, it was naturally easy to defend. The site preserves a roughly 3,000-year-old Urartian cuneiform inscription, rock tunnels, rock tombs, rock-cut stairways, temples and water cisterns.
