Editor's Note
Located to the west of the city, south of the Temple of Dionysus, this water structure dates to the Roman period. Rectangular in plan, it was built of mortared rubble stone. Its north-facing front has 16 blind arches, and its eastern side has 2. The structure is covered with a barrel vault and contains a plastered water reservoir. Measuring 45.5 m by 6.85 m by 5.42 m, it is remarkably well preserved. Based on the surviving remains, the building is thought to have been used as a cistern, though it may also have served as a fountain structure.
