Editor's Note
On Boğsak Island in Boğsak Cove there are houses, tombs, cisterns and church ruins from the Roman and Early Byzantine periods. An inscription found on the island, dated to the 5th-6th centuries AD, records that the settlement was called 'Asteria' and was furnished with buildings worthy of a city. From the 14th century onward, Boğsak Cove is reported in portolans and nautical charts as a harbour called 'Porto Pini', set opposite Nesulion Island. The name Porto Pini, meaning 'Pine Harbour', was given because of the Calabrian pine forests around the harbour.
