Editor's Note

Çandarlı Castle stands in the Çandarlı neighbourhood of the Dikili district in İzmir. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it was restored by the Genoese in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 15th century by order of Grand Vizier Çandarlı Halil Pasha. UNESCO added the castle to its World Heritage Tentative List in 2013.
