Editor's Note
Hemite Castle (Amouda), within today's Osmaniye Province, dates from the era of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. It was deeded to the Teutonic Knights in 1212 and rebuilt by them in the 13th century as a local base in Cilicia. According to sources, the castle sheltered around two thousand people during the Mamluk invasion of 1266.
