Antakya Castle (Hatay Castle) stands in the Antakya district of Hatay. Its walls were first built around 300 BC under Seleucus I Nicator, one of Alexander the Great's generals, and were extended in the Roman and Byzantine periods to a length of 23,600 metres, making them the longest fortification walls in Turkey after those of Istanbul. The walls run over Mount Habib Neccar, reaching the Orontes (Asi) River to the west and the plains below to the east.
