Editor's Note
Kırkgöz Kemeri, known in Roman times as the Bridge near Limyra, is one of the oldest segmental-arch bridges in the world. Spanning the Alakır Çayı over a length of about 360 m at the ancient Lycian city of Limyra near Finike in Antalya, its 26 segmental arches with a span-to-rise ratio of 5.3:1 give it an unusually flat profile that remained unsurpassed until the late Middle Ages.
