Editor's Note
Arslantepe, also known as Melid, is an archaeological mound about 7 km northeast of Malatya near the Tohma River, a tributary of the upper Euphrates rising in the Taurus Mountains. One of the largest tells in Turkey, its cultural deposit stands around 30 metres high and was occupied from the 6th millennium BC to the 11th century AD, later serving as a Roman village and then a Byzantine necropolis.
