Editor's Note
Kultepe, known by its ancient name Kanes (Nesa), is an archaeological site in Kayseri Province. A major settlement from the early 3rd millennium BC, it is world-renowned for its role at the start of the 2nd millennium BC, when a karum (merchant colony) grew up in its lower town. The 23,500 cuneiform tablets recovered from its private houses form the largest collection of private texts known from the ancient Near East.
