Rising just outside Aksaray, Tepesidelik Mound is a silent witness to Anatolia being a cradle of civilizations. This earth-colored ruin holds the architectural remains of different periods stacked layer upon layer over time; the settlement history reaching from the Early Bronze Age to the Iron Age is preserved as a story within each of the mound's layers. Palace, temple, and dwelling walls, pottery fragments, and goddess figurines tell us about the daily lives of the ancient societies that once lived here. The mound's most remarkable feature is that the traces of so many civilizations are found side by side at a single site, with every stone and every piece of ceramic standing as an indicator of Anatolia's rich cultural fabric. Exploring the broad terrain surrounding the mound on foot in the early morning, and seeing up close the remains found at different elevations, offers the finest visiting experience.
