The Diocaesarea Necropolis, located to the south of Silifke, is an important archaeological site that lays bare the rich history of Cilicia. Founded in the Hellenistic period, this ancient settlement flourished under Roman rule and became one of the most distinguished burial grounds of its time. The stone tombs and rock-cut graves arranged at the foot of a high hill offer valuable clues about the death rituals and social structure of past civilizations. The sarcophagi and grave goods uncovered in excavations reflect the cultural diversity and commercial relations of the people who lived in this region. In particular, the architectural elements in which the Greco-Persian style appears reveal the character of Anatolia at the crossroads of different cultures. Visitors can tour the Diocaesarea Necropolis together with its eastern neighbor, the ancient city of Olba, and experience the unsolved historical curiosity of more than 2,000 years.
