Editor's Note
Claudiopolis, also called Ninica, was an important city in ancient Cilicia founded as a colony of the Roman emperor Claudius. Sources place it in the basin of the Calycadnus (Göksu) river near the junction of its northern and western branches, identifying it with the modern town of Mut. It bore the Roman colonial name Colonia Iulia Felix Augusta Ninica and minted its own coins. Later assigned to the province of Isauria, it became a bishopric; its ruins lie near the Mut district of Mersin Province.
