Editor's Note
The ancient city of Tisna is a settlement of the Aeolis region founded around Sarıkale Tepe and Kocakale Tepe by the Kocaçay, in the Uzunhasanlar quarter of the Aliağa district of İzmir. Pliny the Elder, who called it Titanus, states that the city took its name from the ancient Titnaios River (today's Kocaçay/Güzelhisar); the river god Titnaios, bearing the same name as the river, is depicted on coins of Aigai and Tisna. The first concrete information about the city was reported in the 1860s by the French traveller Guichon, and as of 2018 surface surveys have been carried out under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Erdan.
