Editor's Note
Chytrium (Chytrion) was a settlement in ancient Ionia. Aristotle mentions disputes between the inhabitants of Chytrium and the people of Clazomenae on an island, while Strabo claims that the city of Clazomenae was originally founded here. According to an inscribed decree of 387 BC, the Athenians granted Clazomenae the right to settle, with full autonomy, its agreements with the exiled oligarchs who had settled at Chytrium. The site lies today southwest of the Urla district of İzmir and was excavated by a team led by Prof. Dr. Güven Bakır.
