Editor's Note
Octapolis was a city at the intersection of the Caria and Lycia regions in antiquity; its name, Greek for 'eight cities', points to it being the centre of a confederation or union of eight settlements. The Stadiasmus Patarensis (Patara road guide) lists the town of Lyrnai among the components of this union, and the city was also recorded by the geographer Ptolemy. Its remains are localized today near the village boundaries of Elcik, Sabunlu and Kızılkaya in the Dalaman district of Muğla.
