Editor's Note
Zincirli Höyük is a mound in the plain at the foot of the Amanus Mountains, north of İslahiye in Gaziantep. Known by its Aramaic name Samʾal, it was a royal center and one of the foremost metropolises of the Late Hittite period. Spanning some 40 hectares about 3,000 years ago, the city was enclosed by double walls; an inscription of the Assyrian king Esarhaddon found in excavations confirmed the city as Samʾal.
