Editor's Note
Samosata was an ancient city on the western bank of the Euphrates, at the former site of the modern town of Samsat in Adıyaman. Although its population was predominantly Syriac-speaking, Hellenistic culture played an important role there. The site is now inaccessible, submerged beneath the waters of the later-built Atatürk Dam.
