Hierocaesarea, whose name derives from the Greek for "sacred" and the Latin for "belonging to Caesar", was a town and bishopric in the late Roman province of Lydia. Also known as Hierakome and with its metropolitan see at Sardis, it was inhabited in the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
