The Çorum Archaeology Museum, set in the region where Hattusa, the capital of the Hittite Empire, once stood, carries the traces of one of Anatolia's greatest civilizations. The clay tablets, reliefs, and statues unearthed from the ruins of Boğazköy reveal the way of life and system of governance of a thousand-year-old civilization. The museum's collections include works depicting the religious rituals of the Hittite age, documents written in cuneiform, and finely crafted ceramics; these region-specific objects offer priceless information about Anatolia's ancient era. The Hittite civilization was one of the first societies in world history to set down written laws. The tens of thousands of tablets unearthed at Boğazköy are proof of the empire's sophisticated administrative system. When visiting the museum, going first to the ancient city ruins of Boğazköy and then examining the museum's works in their context will offer a far richer experience.
