Story

Located in the Aybastı district of Ordu, the Perşembe Plateau stretches out as the epitome of the Black Sea region's natural and cultural richness. Having been the living space of nomadic and settled communities for thousands of years, this highland is an important cultural heir that carries the traces of the past into the present. With its green grass cover, its mountainous silhouettes reaching to the horizon, and its refreshing natural springs, the Perşembe Plateau offers visitors the pure abundance of nature. Finds that demonstrate the plateau's historical importance prove that the region lay along strategic trade routes throughout antiquity. Sheep and goat farming and traditional animal husbandry have continued for centuries and still form the cornerstones of the local economy today. Archaeological work has uncovered finds dating to the Hittite and ancient Pontic periods. The plateau's name (Perşembe means 'Thursday') may stem from the weekly market operating from Monday through Friday, a name that reflects the region's traditional commercial network. Visiting tip: in the months from May to September, rise early in the morning to discover the natural beauty, buy organic cheese and local products from the local farmers, and watch the splendor of the plateau landscape at sunset.
