Story
At the center of Melikgazi, the National Struggle Museum stands as a sentinel of Anatolia's epic of liberation. The weapons, documents, photographs, and handwritten personal diaries from the period of 1919 to 1923 are kept here. The museum takes visitors back to those turbulent years; the lives of fighters from Kayseri, the weight of the struggle, and the elation of victory all come together here. Kayseri was one of the most active centers of the National Struggle, and the people of this city made important contributions to the fight for liberation. Among the items on display is the struggle of women, who are often left in the shadows of historical writing: letters, personal belongings, and photographs recount their important role in the War of Independence. My advice to visitors: come early in the morning; in the museum's quiet spaces you will better hear the voices of a century ago.
