Editor's Note
This building in Akşehir served as the headquarters of the Western Front during Turkey's War of Independence. Originally built in 1904-1905 as the municipal building, the two-storey structure became the center from which preparations for the Great Offensive were directed after the headquarters moved here on 18 November 1921, following the Battle of Sakarya. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited several times to oversee the work; converted into a museum in 1964, it preserves the original headquarters rooms along with period documents, weapons and photographs.
