Editor's Note
Smintheion (Smintheum) was a town in the ancient Troad, near Chryse, containing a noted sanctuary of Apollo mentioned by Homer. The sanctuary was dedicated to Apollo Smintheus, a byname of Apollo associated with mice; here Apollo was worshipped as protector against a plague of mice that once gripped the region.
