Story
The Bread Museum in Ankara's Yenimahalle district recounts the historical and cultural journey of bread, the most sacred food of Turkish civilization. The museum displays bread-making tools, ancient oven molds, and traditional recipe documents gathered from various parts of Anatolia. In the collection, the variety of bread, ranging from dark wheat bread to crisp rye and soft white loaves, reflects the richness of the Turkish table. In the Ottoman age, the price of bread was controlled by the state, because keeping bread affordable for the people was the foundation of social stability. The old baking tools and handwritten recipes in the museum's display cases preserve this masterful knowledge passed down from generation to generation. During your visit, taking part in the educational sessions where traditional clay-oven bread-making is demonstrated will let you experience this culture live.
