The Florence Nightingale Museum occupies the north-west tower of the Selimiye Barracks in Üsküdar. During the Crimean War of 1854 the barracks served as a military hospital where Florence Nightingale, regarded as one of the founders of modern nursing, and her team worked. The museum displays many of Nightingale's handwritten notes, letters and personal belongings.
