Editor's Note
The Earthquake Culture Museum (Adapazarı Earthquake and Culture Museum) in Sakarya opened in 2004 under Adapazarı Municipality; its construction began in 2000 and took four years. It was built to commemorate those who died in the 17 August 1999 Marmara earthquake and to raise public awareness of earthquakes. The building is designed to resemble a collapse, with ruined walls and tilted columns, and displays before-and-after photographs of the 1967 and 1999 earthquakes.
