Editor's Note
The Hagia Sophia of Trabzon is a former Greek Orthodox church, located near the seashore of Trabzon, that was converted into a mosque after Mehmed II's conquest of the city in 1461. Dating to the thirteenth century when Trabzon was the capital of the Empire of Trebizond, it became a museum in 1964 and was reconverted into a mosque in 2013. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in the area.
