Foundation of one of the Seven Wonders — Mausolus's tomb, demolished by Crusaders to build Bodrum Castle.
Editor's Note
The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was a monumental tomb built between 353 and 351 BC in Halicarnassus (modern Bodrum) for King Mausolus by his sister-wife Artemisia, and counted among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Combining Greek columns with an Egyptian-style pyramidal roof, it was so admired that the word "mausoleum" came to describe all later tombs in its style. Destroyed by successive earthquakes between the 12th and 15th centuries, its site is now arranged as an open-air museum.
