Story
At the historical and spiritual root of the Eyüpsultan district stands Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, one of the revered figures of Islamic history. One of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, Abu Ayyub came to the city with the Ottoman army during the conquest of Istanbul in 1453 and passed away here. His tomb, a structure reflecting the classical character of Ottoman architecture and adorned with elegant arches and tile ornamentation, deeply moves visitors with its spiritual atmosphere. The arcaded courtyard surrounding the tomb and its marble details are fine examples of the historic art of ornamentation. Abu Ayyub's arrival in Istanbul carries the symbolic meaning of the conquest in Ottoman history. Visited by sultans for centuries, this place stands out not only for its religious and cultural importance but also for its architectural value. During your visit, you can see the Eyüpsultan Mosque beside the tomb and the historic cemeteries around it, finding the chance to come closely acquainted with the history of Istanbul's conquest and its spiritual heritage. Especially on Fridays and during religious holidays, the most heartfelt way of meeting history is experienced in this quiet, reverent place.
